Welcome to Discussions, Jamoyan!
OK.. Yes, you must be doing something wrong.
Do you have enough light in the room?
Perhaps you are not stepping out of the picture until you see the the “Background Detected” message?
Have you searched PhotoBooth > Help for hints?
You don't specify what's wrong, but here are a couple of other common problem solutions:
(0) If you cannot add a snapshot or video to make your own backdrop, see
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=PhotoBooth/1.0/en/11860.html
(1) If you see 'holes' in the background image or the image is not stable, see

How Can I Re Photo Booth For Mac Computer

As you know, Photo Booth includes a collection of image-altering effects you can use to distort your photos; just click the Effects button to see the collection of 24 effects, and to apply them to. How to change your background with Photo Booth on Mac One option that Photo Booth has is an almost green screen effect of sorts, but without all the hassle of a green screen! All you have to do is pick your background, step out of frame, and then step back in to be transported to the moon, a rollercoaster, or a beautiful, sunny beach, and so. In the Photo Booth app on your Mac, if you’re viewing a photo or a video, click the View Photo Preview button or the View Video Preview button. Click the Effects button. Click the browse buttons on the bottom of the window to see previews of the effects. Click an effect to select it.
